sunday post #31

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. It's a chance to recap posts from the past week and tease upcoming content, as well as share new books, reading challenge progress, and anything else you've come across in the last seven days.

It rained, it rained, it rained!! It's still raining as I type this beside the open shutters of a bedroom window, Sense and Sensibility playing softly on the television behind me while I try to catch up on all sorts of writing. All in all I've had a quiet week, although one unexpected phone call did deliver some momentary drama. Last summer, an Uber I was riding in got rear-ended on the highway. Because no one was injured (and it wasn't my car/I wasn't driving) and my mother is a notorious fretter, I never brought it up.

Apparently the insurance companies are still hashing out a payment though, because the other driver's agent somehow found my parent's unlisted home phone number and called looking for me! So...that caused a fuss. I was especially peeved since I made sure to leave my personal contact information with the responding officer, just in case something like this happened. The agent requested a written statement of what I remembered from the incident that I need to proofread and send off soon, although I'll admit instigating a minor family drama doesn't exactly encourage me to pick up the pace...

BOOKS I READ

#ARCAugust is in full swing! My to-read stack has changed slightly since the end of July, but I'm still making headway on my review copy pile...and that bingo board! City of Ghosts was a fun middle grade offering from Victoria/V.E. Schwab and definitely cemented her as a new favorite author. The Boneless Mercies by April Genevieve Tucholke was an absolute marvel, though—I literally had goosebumps all over for the last fifty pages! I'm bummed that while she will be coming through town on tour this fall, it's smack in the middle of my 10 day vacation. Thankfully my local bookshop was happy to reserve a copy for her to sign and personalize while I'm away.

I also finished a new addition to my stack, The Sacrifice Box by Martin Stewart, in order to be sure I have it taken care of before the blog tour at the end of the month. I'll have a Q&A with the author on Thursday the 30th, so keep an eye out!

LAST WEEK ON THE BLOG
COMING UP ON THE BLOG

Book Review: Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage
Fairy Tale Mash-Ups I'd Like to Read
Book Review: Vicious by V.E. Schwab

BOOK HAULS

I have a couple of exciting fall releases to add to my shelves: The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner, which sounds like a perfect follow-up to a summer that included The Girl in the Tower and Spinning Silver, and The Light Between Worlds by Laura Weymouth, which I've been hankering to read for several months now. I also picked up a copy of The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon at my local bookstore. Her 2019 novel, The Priory of the Orange Tree, sounds outstanding and I'd like to familiarize myself with her writing before it comes out.
