film review policies

All film reviews were originally assigned by and featured on Red Carpet Crash. I receive no compensation for my reviews, which consist of my own, honest opinion. I write fair and honest reviews, which does not always mean that my reviews will be positive. However, if I did not enjoy a film I will explain clearly and specifically what it was that I did not like.

Each review averages 500-750 words in length, including a spoiler-free summary of the plot. At the end of each review, I’ve added a rating on the scale of one to five stars. One and five star reviews are both rare; a movie must be exceptionally good (or bad) to earn either extreme. Half-star ratings are given as well.

**Note: For all reviews dated after January 22, 2018, the five star rating system below is used. Any films reviewed prior to that date were rated according to a four star scale.

Film Rating Key
  • ★ = Movies with this rating are so bad they’re…just bad.
  • ★★ = The film may have some redeeming characteristics, but they are overwhelmed by poor writing, performances, and/or direction.
  • ★★★ = An average movie. There were either several glaring issues with the film, or else it wasn’t a subject/story I’m particularly interested in. Movies with this rating may be more appreciated by viewers with different tastes than mine.
  • ★★★★ = An excellent film that I would go out of my way to recommend. There may be some minor flaws, but they don’t detract from the movie as a whole.
  • ★★★★★ = A new favorite film and one of the best I’ve seen. All production aspects combined to make a practically flawless movie.
